Saving & spending

Can I order the nice coffee without a retirement crisis?

From: Guilty with Oat Milk

Dear Gym Bear, I’m paying my bills and saving, but every small treat feels like stealing from future me. I want to be responsible. I’d also like to enjoy being alive before I retire.— Guilty with Oat Milk

A little perspective from Gym Bear

Dear Oat Milk, future you and present you are on the same team. They do not need to fight over a pastry.

Try giving enjoyable spending a deliberate place in your plan alongside essentials, debt payments, and savings. Use your actual cash flow to choose an amount you can afford. Then decide what’s worth it to you inside that amount. A budget can be permission as well as a boundary.

If the numbers don’t stretch right now, make the trade-off explicit and temporary where possible. If the numbers do work but the guilt keeps showing up, notice that distinction. More spreadsheet cells may not answer an emotional question. You’re allowed to talk it through with someone you trust.
