Money can be heavy.
You don’t have to lift it alone.

SOFT HEART
Imagined letters. Familiar feelings. These fictional letters explore everyday money worries; they aren’t actual reader submissions.
Feeling behind
Everyone has it figured out. Did I miss orientation?
Dear Gym Bear, I’m 34. My friends are buying houses and talking about their portfolios. I’m proud when I get through the month without moving money out of savings. Every money article feels like a list of things I should have done ten years ago. Is it too late for me?— Late to the Weight RoomOpen this letter’s page
A little perspective from Gym Bear
Dear Late to the Weight Room, first: welcome. There is no entrance exam, and nobody is checking how much you can bench. You’re seeing your friends’ highlight reels, not their mortgage payments, family help, or 2 a.m. worries. Their numbers aren’t a fair measure of your progress.
Let’s give you a starting point you can actually use. Write down what comes in, what must go out, and what’s left. If there’s nothing left, that’s information about the pressure you’re under—not a character flaw. The next move might be looking for support, changing a bill, or finding breathing room before saving more.
If you do have some room, choose one manageable habit: a small savings transfer, one extra debt payment, or a regular money check-in. You can adjust the amount later. Your job this week is to find a foothold. We can leave the financial cartwheels for another day.
In your corner, Gym Bear
Book a 15-minute money check-in. Write down your starting point and one thing you can influence this month.
